RUSAL starts supplying a new segment of the domestic market with aluminium – interiors for trams
Moscow, 1 December 2016. UC RUSAL (SEHK: 486; Euronext: RUSAL/RUAL; Moscow Exchange: RUAL/RUALR), one of the world’s largest aluminium producers, is engaged in the manufacturing of the first in the history of Russian transport engineering aluminium interior for trams. Fully performed in aluminium, the interiors are a part of a fundamentally new domestic market segment, which has a high potential for growth.
In the Autumn of 2016 the company Transmashholding won the tender for supply of 300 trams “Vityaz-M” for the Moscow transport system in 2017 - 2018. The production process is run by PK Transporting Systems. The supplier of the complex interior is Ltd. Krasnoyarsk Machine-building Components.
For interior manufacturing the metal is required. This metal is produced at the Krasnoyarsk Aluminium Smelter, which is a part of RUSAL, then is forwarded to the Krasnoyarsk Metallurgical Plant where the profiles are extruded.Afterwards the aluminium products are sent for further processing to the Krasnoyarsk Machine-building premises.
As estimated by RUSAL, manufacturing of 300 trams will require 500 tons of metal.
“The development of aluminium interiors for trams is a precedent to the introduction of aluminium into diverse segments of the transport engineering market. It is also an illustrative example of the export potential augmentation and the import substitution,” said Roman Andryushin, Head of Russia and CIS Sales of UC RUSAL. “Currently, the supply of aluminium interiors is negotiated with several European tram manufacturers.”

Ltd. Krasnoyarsk Machine-building Components is a company focused at research and development as well as production of aluminiums products, which can be applied in transport engineering. Together with PK Transporting Systems, in 2014 Krasnoyarsk Machine-building Components developed the first one-car Russian tram models 71-911 and 71-911 “City Star” with interiors entirely made of aluminium. At the moment these trams are operated in Tver and Rostov-on-Don. In 2015 a three-car tram “Vityaz-M” was implemented and now is operated in Saint Petersburg and Krasnodar.
