New Low-floor Trams to Hit Moscow Streets by 1 April
The city will receive its new-generation Vityaz-M trams by 1 April, said Deputy Moscow Mayor Maxim Liksutov, Head of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development.
Each 27.5-metre long tram has six doors on one side, including two single-section doors and four twin-section doors. Each tram has 60 seats and can carry 260 people overall.
The new six-door trams will be much quieter, with their upgraded wheel assembly offering a much smoother ride. The low-profile railcars will be more passenger-friendly and will be less noticed by nearby residential buildings. The city has already purchased 300 of the new trams, Mr Liksutov added.
Vityaz-M trams will also feature satellite navigation, video cameras and a special climate control system in both the passenger compartment and the tram operator’s cabin.
